i am new here and this is my very first post.
i've been following the message threads over the past few months and decided it was time to register.
(i couldn't decide on a unique username or else i would have done it sooner!).
"We were told by the elders that we couldn't get married in the KH because my fiance was only a Witness for a few months and that it might "stumble" people. Imagine that!"
Hi YellowLab. The same thing happened to me. They said that we were both in "good standing" but couldn't get married in the hall. She was only baptized a short time before we were engaged. Man was I pissed!! After a life time of cleaning, repairing, contributing etc. all I wanted was 45 minutes of pay back and they said no. That was the last time I ever lifted a finger to clean that dump, and never dropped a penny in the box again. It wasn't long after that that I was outta there for good. We got married at City Hall, and hardly anyone attended.
14 years later, I'm on my second wife, a Catholic woman who never had anything to do with the JW's. What a difference being married to a normal person!!
just my $.02 worth...

just when we all thought the 3 day assemblies were too long, here comes the international conventions which are four days long.
the district convention assignment letter from the branch was read tonight informing our congo that we were chosen to attend this years international convention in pontiac, michigan, from june 19-22.. so to all you apostate playa's out there in the motor city, get your rolling billboards ready and stock up on handouts.
give me some flyers beforehand so i can make sure to drop some off in the bathrooms discretely for maximum coverage.
There is some great mountain biking in the Hell/Pontiac area. Bring your bikes!! Wait until spring and it could be an "Aposta-ride"

what are some of the stupidest comments made in the watchtower, or by a circuit overseer or elder that you've never forgotten?
the one about" the rapist being human" too, ranks right up there....like we're supposed to feel bad for him?
Hey Geddy, I can see the humour in it. I can just picture the skewed hand gesture as he illustrates the crystallization of truth!!
Stan
howdy, i'm new here.
21 years in & now about 1 year drifted away with no meetings for spiritual food other than the memorial.
so, in my brother's view i am either spiritually dead or the next thing to it.
There was a discussion about the Mexico issue within the last day or two. Farkel posted a lengthy discussion on the subject. Look for the subject "Another Watchtower Lie" or something along those lines started by GeddyLee.

Welcome aboard.
You may want to read his other book too. In Search of Christian Freedom. This was an excellent book to put JW teachings in perspective, for me anyway.

i was watching the news last night.
the latest word from the war front is that we should be able to peaceably work out our differences with north korea.
as humiliating as it will be for us to kiss north korea's ass, we will do so because they do have the ability to nuke our west coast.
Hi Musky,
I would say arrogance more than anything else. Living in a border city, we see it all the time.

how do i know the bible is true?
by thomas schaff.
external evidence.
Hi SwedishChef,
You made the claim that the Bible has never been proved wrong. What about Isaiah 17:1? This verse prophesies that Damascus will be completely destroyed and no longer be inhabited. Yet Damascus has never been completely destroyed and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities.
or Jeremiah 49:33
Jeremiah predicts that humans will never again live in Hazor, but will be replaced by jackels. But people still live there today.

are elders more spiritual or just better qualified to teach?
does the watchtower choose their leaders for their spirituality or their leadership?
Hi Geddy,
I was at work when they announced my appointment. That theory has to make you wonder though. Remember Atkins stumbling home drunk while he was an elder? Wasn't he screwing one of his wife's studies too? I guess the HS didn't see that one correctly. Or maybe, just maybe, the JW world has nothing to do with God, his HS or anything even remotely related to that.

This is how a CO explained the appointing by holy spirit:
The Holy Spirit makes the BOE take notice of a brother who is reaching out. It is as if a light was shining specifically on that individual. Then the BOE takes a closer look at this individual, to determine if he is living up to the qualifications outlined in the Bible.
Ya, right...
